How to Dry Aspen/Dehydrate Aspen in a Dehydrator

Introduction to aspen

  Poplar is a strongly positive tree species. Like warm, cool and humid climate. In areas where the temperature difference between day and night is relatively large in early spring, the bark often freezes and cracks. In warm and rainy climates, it is vulnerable to pests and diseases and grows poorly. The soil requirements are not strict, and it grows quickly on deep fertile, moist loam or sandy loam.

Aspen drying process:

1. Pre-heat treatment stage
The purpose is to fully heat the aspen wood board before it is dried, and to remove the drying stress that may have existed (generated during the air drying process). Start the heat pump to supply heat to the drying room. The temperature is between 40°C and 50°C. The temperature should not rise too fast. The effect of simulating humidification can be achieved without dehumidification in the first 1-2 days. The simulated humidification time to the drying room depends on the type and thickness of the poplar wood board, generally 20-30 hours, about 1-2 days. The circulating fan in the drying room changes its direction every 4 hours.
2. Intermediate processing stage
Intermediate treatment is a humidity conditioning treatment carried out during the drying process. Its purpose is to eliminate the surface swelling stress generated in the early stage to prevent surface cracking, or to eliminate the surface hardening caused by the middle and late drying to prevent internal cracking in the later stage.
Dehumidification is carried out manually according to the operating direction of the fan in the drying room. After the preheating and humidification is completed, it will be static for 24 hours. Dehumidification can be performed when the temperature is above 55°C, and the corresponding moisture outlet cover can be opened or closed manually according to the rotation of the fan. The dehumidification time is that the fan changes direction every 4 hours, and the humidity is discharged for 30 minutes. The temperature will gradually rise after dehumidification, but it should not exceed 75°C. Intermediate treatment is the humidity adjustment treatment carried out during the drying process. For poplar wood boards that are prone to deformation or cracking, the humidity cannot be discharged for too long each time during the drying process. This operation takes about 6-7 days.
3. Normal drying stage
After 9 days, the temperature is 65-75, overheating is strictly prohibited, and the circulating fan changes direction every 4 hours. It takes about 4-6 days to dry.

Its working principle is: the working fluid of the heat pump is compressed by the compressor, becomes high temperature and high pressure gas, enters the condenser, condenses and liquefies the heat, and is used for air heating in the drying room. The moisture in the material is vaporized and evaporated by the form of hot air, and the evaporated water vapor is discharged by the moisture discharge system, thereby achieving the purpose of drying the drying material.
